Koh Chang
We took a bus and boat to Koh Chang (which according to what we’d read should take three and a half hours). As we were leaving at half 8 we thought we would definitely get there for midday. However, first of all we had to follow a man riding a pink motorbike through Bangkok to get the bus. This involved pratically running with our backpacks to keep up. The bus didn’t have the greatest facilities including a tiny toilet that no one was going to fit in. The bus actually took about 7 hours so we got to our first destination, White Sands Beach, at about 5pm. White Sands BeachWe hadn’t booked any accommodation so we took a while to find somewhere to stay. We eventually found Island Lodge where they had one room left. There were 53 steps to...
The Return to Bangkok
Hi,We’re currently in Bangkok again. We had to come back to get our visas sorted for South Korea. Rachel and I both loved Koh Tao. It was easily our favourite place. It was super-chilled, reasonably priced and you didn’t have to deal with pain in the backsides trying to sell you something everywhere you go. Our first night there we stayed in a tiny bungalow for 10 pound a night. If it had glass covering the windows and not just mosquito net it would have been ok but from 6pm onwards all the weird animals and creepy crawlies come and take it upon themselves to compete in the ‘let’s keep Jimmy and Rachel awake’ competition. You might think that we’re blowing it out of proportion but we’re genuinely not. There was this one...
From Koh Phangan to Koh Tao
Hi,Rachel and I have moved on from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao. We really liked Koh Phangan. It was nothing more than party island. The beach was nice, the food was fine, and the various nights out were a good laugh. You could choose from foam parties on the beach, Half moon parties in the jungle, cross dressing pool parties (cross dressing optional apparently), and fire shows. We managed the half moon party and the fire shows but not the pool or foam parties sadly.Half moon party The half moon party was quite an experience. We were literally taken to a jungle (although only on the outskirts) where there was an out door bar and a dance floor surrounded by trees and psychadelic UV paintings. We had a good time. You might be wandering if we put up with the squarking...
From Koh Samui to Koh Phangan
Hi all,Following on from the last post I did end up having fried crocodile. It was lovely. A mixture of chicken and pork but with a stronger taste. We’ve left Koh Samui and our lovely bungalows on Big Buddha Beach. We already miss it. Mostly I miss my hammock and the book exchange. Rachel misses the huge fruit and yogurt breakfasts we used to have. Before leaving Koh Samui we visited Chaweng, the tourist capital of the island. We Fancied a night out on the town and we certainly weren’t disappointed. First of all we had to get there. We found some weird pick-up truck taxi thing called a songthaew (see below for a picture). It was a hairy ride but we got there in the end. The place was super busy. We found a cracking little street filled with funky bars...
Bungalows in Big Buddha Beach
Hello all,Sorry it’s been a while since we posted. We’ve been upto a fair bit these last few days. Although, at the moment we’re spending most of our time lying on a fairly secluded beach on the quiet side of Koh Samui. I’ll do my best to fill you in what we’ve done but our camera isn’t compatible with most of the internet cafe computers so rather than include our photos I’ve had to include photos from the internet. BANGKOKOur first day in Bangkok was a bit of a blur. We were too tired to really take anything. After having a decent nap we had a saunter around Khao San Road and Tanee Road (A.K.A Backpacker central). The place is absolutely mental. In fact, the best word I can use to describe it is...
Finally Arrived in Bangkok
We’re finally here! We’ve checked into a place called Thai Cozy House. It’s quite charming. The 36 hour journey was a bit of a pain but worth it. We made a load of schoolboy errors during the trip so we thought we’d compile a list of don’ts for anyone making a similar journey seeking advice. Don’t book a 36 hour flight and think it’s going to be pleasant. Don’t accidently drop and leave your passport on the plane in Dubai. Don’t forget to bring a jacket. Dubai airport is not warm. Don’t try to convince someone that there is such a thing as ‘west-easterly wind’. NO THERE ISN’T RACHEL! It’s either West to East or East to West. Don’t think that L means large and R...
