Our final preparations for on the road
Indonesia beckons. We’ve got a few more goodbyes to say, a lot more packing to do and a half a day to sell the stuff worth selling.
Apart from booking our hostel in Jakarta, Indonesia is a blank slate to us. Our plans are extremely flexible. We’ve got a few apartments to look at in Yogya, but we’re open to whatever comes our way.
We’ve also booked flights to Malaysia and Vietnam for brief weekend holidays.
In preparation for being on the road again we’ve added a few extra things to our inventory to make things easier. The first is a pacsafe day bag. I love it. I plan to write a review about it soon. Ignoring the large price tag, it will really ease our mind during the day.
The second is international calling cards. We’ve spent a bomb in Korea on phone cards calling banks, the student loans company, embassies etc. We use skype to call our friends and family but it isn’t flexible enough when it comes to emergencies or unexpected calls to landlines and mobile phones. We looked around and found a site called Enjoyprepaid. They worked out cheaper than skype and you can use them on public phone boxes, as well as making calls from your PC.
The third addition was travel insurance. We had no idea beforehand but since we have been living outside of the UK for so long we are no longer considered a UK resident. This, sadly, disqualifies us from a lot of travel insurance companies. We managed to go through World Nomads in the end but not at a price I was happy about. Still, travel insurance is something you can’t take risks with.
Despite these, and a few more little additions, we still feel massively unprepared. Then again, I’m yet to hit the road and not feel unprepared.
My next task is compiling a list of albums and podcasts for my ipod. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
In the meantime, I took a walk around our neighbourhood one last time to get some farewell pictures.
