Flea markets are becoming increasingly popular all over the world. Well-known in European cities such as Berlin or London, the flea market fever is spreading like wildfire. And this is not, as some people could think, because of the hard times we are living, which are forcing us to think twice every time we open the wallet. Not at all. Buying second-hand goods is a good choice if you’re looking for something different, ecological, and of course, cheap. This markets are heaven for people looking for original and unique items which help them create an original look away from the clothes sold in big chains. In the flea markets you are drown in a bohemian atmosphere and you can find not only the most outlandish clothes but also old books, records and lots of other second-hand accessories.

A cosmopolitan city as Barcelona couldn’t miss this trend so flea markets are becoming more and more popular amongst its inhabitants and tourists. If you want to enjoy the atmosphere of the city’s flea markets don’t stay in your Barcelona apartments and go to spend the day at one of these markets. Here are the most popular:

The Flea Market

The Flea is a monthly flea market where you sell or trade items such as clothing, accessories, records, books, etc at token prices. It started in 2007 and on its latest editions has been transferred to the Pl. Blanquerna in the Raval (behind the Maritim Museum). To find out next edition’s date contact fleamarketbcn@gmail.com

Lost & Found

Inspired by the big European flea markets, in the Lost & Found market you can find personal items such as books, clothes, music, comics, toys or art. It currently takes place every 3 months and the market place it usually has a dj’s area and a bar area. The last editions took place at Estació de França (L4 Barceloneta). If you are lucky and are staying in Barcelona during one of the editions you can’t miss it. Even if you don’t buy anything you’ll have a great time! Els Encants

Els Encants Vells – Mercat de Fira de Bellcaire is one of the oldest markets in Europe. Located between the metro stations L1 Glòries and L2 Encants is a space of over 15.000 m2 where you can find all kind of new and old objects, crafts and high technology. Yes, there is a lot of rubbish and some vendors just pour all their stuff onto a cloth in front of them, but if you pay attention you can find real gems. Els Encants opens every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 18pm. But if you want to find good stuff you better go early.

If you already are a flea market addict you can’t miss these ones but if you go crazy buying stuff you better live in one of the apartments in Barcelona around the markets. Otherwise going back home can be exhausting.
