Typhoon Dianmu hits Korea

Rachel and I didn’t really feel the effects of the typhoon Dianmu yesterday and today. It rained all day yesterday, but it was fairly light and without any significant wind.

I think Jeju island, our holiday destination for tomorrow, got the worst of it.

According to the Korea Herald:

The Jeju branch of the Korea Meteorological Administration reinforced the watch and warnings as the typhoon, named after a Chinese goddess of thunder and lightening, reached the island, said officials.

The Jeju KMA predicted a strong southeaster of 20-25 meters per second from Tuesday to early Wednesday, which would be downgraded Thursday to a southwester of 14-20 meters per second.

The upcoming typhoon also affected the rest of the country with heavy rain and wind, dismissing the watch against the unprecedented heat wave which has dominated the peninsula over the past weeks.

The typhoon is expected to leave the eastern coast of Korea on Thursday afternoon and subside into tropical low pressure wind as it passes near Ulleung Island in the East Sea on Friday, said officials.

Although the typhoon has passed the weather still looks dire for Jeju. That should be a nice holiday.
